This one was taken at The Great Sands Dunes National Park in Colorado last October. This immediately became one of my favorite places on earth as soon as I visited. I will have to make a few more trips here, I think, as the dunes give so many possibilities of different shots. From close-ups of the patterns in the sand to views like this one that show the beautiful backdrop of The Sangre de Cristo mountain range as a backdrop.
Camera: Canon 5D Mark II
Lens: Canon EF16-35mm f/2.8L II USM
Settings: Bracketed Exposures @ f/22 for maximum depth of field, ISO 100, 16mm Focal Length
6 Bracketed exposures were combine using Photoshop layers and the resulting image was tweaked with a combination of OnOne’s Perfect Photo Suite and NIK software. Final adjustments were made in Lightroom. Used a Rocket Blower to remove the sand particles from my sensor…. I also have a black and white version of this shot here. Which do you like best?
